Andhra Man Arrested for Smuggling SIM Cards at Bangalore Airport

Bangalore: An Andhra Pradesh man, aged 55, has been arrested at Kempegowda International Airport for illegally smuggling SIM cards.  N. R. Srinivasa Rao, hailing from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was apprehended with 24 SIM cards from various companies, including Jio and Airtel. Authorities received intelligence from both Central and State Intelligence Departments suggesting a network illegally procuring SIM cards from India and trafficking them abroad via international courier services. Acting on this information, authorities increased vigilance on arriving passengers and luggage, leading to Rao's arrest.

Rao concealed the SIM cards in his luggage and was attempting to travel to Cambodia when airport officials discovered them during routine checks. Security detained Rao and handed him over to the police.

Investigations revealed that Rao, a divorcee who left studies after pre-university, lacked stable income and lent money to people across the country using their identities to obtain SIM cards. These cards were intended for smuggling overseas.

Authorities are concerned about potential misuse of these SIM cards for criminal activities, including cyber fraud, suspecting involvement of a large-scale global network in such illicit operations.
