Visakhapatnam: On the one hand the Jagan Mohan government of Andhra Pradesh is facing accusations of appeasement of Muslims and Christians, on the other hand, there are constant attacks on Hindu temples in the state. In the latest incident, unidentified miscreants damaged the idol of Lord Rama in a temple situated on a hill in Nellimarla Mandal of the state's Vizianagaram district.

The statue was installed in the Bodikonda Kodandaram temple located on the hilltop near the village of Ramatirtham. The trespasser allegedly broke the lock and entered the sanctum of the temple and vandalized the head of the statue of Swami Kodandaramudu. It is said that this statue was 400 years old. Idols of Goddess Sita and Lakshman are also enshrined in the temple. The main temple is at the foot of the hill. The temple where the statue was damaged is on the hilltop. The priest performs regular rituals in both temples. This incident came to light when the priest reached the temple on Tuesday morning to perform regular rituals.

On Tuesday morning, the priests found the doors of the ancient Sita Lakshman Kodandaram temple on Bodikonda hill in Ramatirtham open and the statue of Lord Rama beheaded in the sanctum. The temple staff immediately informed the local police about this. On Wednesday, the damaged part was immersed in a nearby pond.
