Visakhapatnam: The wholesale price of tomatoes in the Rayalaseema area of Andhra Pradesh has come down by 30 to 70 paise per kilo. This has worsened the condition of farmers and has also led to protests against local market authorities. In Andhra Pradesh, the Pathikonda Agriculture Produce Market Committee, a market for tomatoes in Rayalaseema area, fell to the lowest of 30 to 70 paise per kilo this season on Thursday.

It is a wholesale price in the market, but the farmer gets the same price, so the farmers ' problems have increased because it is not even getting the cost. The farmers of Anantapur and Kurnool in the state claim that they have levied Rs 30,000 per acre on tomato growing and pesticides etc. At the same time, they have to pay the vehicle fare to bring tomatoes to the Mandi, so obviously, the cost of the farmers is not being charged.

The farmers questioned the system and said how they could feed their families in such a situation. The farmers also protested against the mandi officials alleging that they were in the market. But market managers say that on Thursday, 150 tonnes of tomatoes suddenly came down in the mandi, leading to a significant drop in prices.
