Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh government has extended curfew across the state till June 20 to curb corona virus infection. However, the curfew period has been increased by two hours. Now the curfew concession time will be from 6 am to 2 pm. State that curfew was first imposed on May 5 to prevent corona infection in the state, which was due to end on June 10.
However after a high level meeting CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to extend it by another 10 days. According to a statement issued by the chief minister's office, government offices will remain open from 8 am to 2 pm. According to the order, "The curfew will continue from 2 pm to 6 am. The ban will continue from 6 am to 2 pm under Section 144 of the CRPC." Earlier, the state government had decided to extend curfew for 10 days on May 31.
Infection cases in the state have declined in the last two weeks and the positivity rate has also come down to about 10 per cent. The positivity rate in the state had gone up to 25.56 per cent on May 16. Last month, 5.71 lakh cases were registered in Andhra Pradesh and 2,877 people died. Both general and ICU beds have also been vacated in hospitals after new cases came down in the state. At the same time, the demand for oxygen has also come down from 700 tonnes to 400 tonnes.
