Andhra Pradesh: Two new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus have been reported in Andhra Pradesh, bringing the total number of cases to four.

Dr. G Hymavati, Director of Public Health, said in a press release, "In Andhra Pradesh, two more cases of Omicron have been detected, bringing the total number of cases to four. On December 19, a 41-year-old Kuwaiti returnee from the East Godavari area landed at Gannavaram airport. On December 20, the subject tested positive for COVID-19, and samples were submitted to the CCMB Hyderabad for genome sequencing. She was found to have the Omicron variant. The patient has been placed in quarantine and is being closely monitored by the health authorities."

Another incidence occurred on December 15, when a 33-year-old UAE returnee from Visakhapatnam landed in the state. After developing a minor fever, the individual was hospitalised to a private hospital and tested positive for COVID-19 on December 16. According to Dr. Hymavati, his samples were sent for genome sequencing and he was infected with the Omicron variety on Thursday.

"So far, a total of 53 overseas travellers and 9 contacts have been discovered COVID-19 RTPCR positive, and all of the samples have been sent for Genome sequencing," the Director added.
