Kurnool: Excess water is being discharged downstream in Srisailam reservoir of Kurnool district. The gates are raised 10 feet to release 1,95,881 cusecs of water through the spillway. 7 gates have been opened to release excess water from the reservoir. Meanwhile, Srisailam is generating power at the right and left hydroelectric plants and releasing an additional 58,561 cusecs to the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir.

Srisailam reservoir has received 1,25,731 cusecs of flood water from upper catchment area of ​​Jurala project and 38,799 cusecs from Sankesula reservoir. Presently the water level of Srisailam is 884.80 feet. The water storage capacity is 214.3637 TMC. The authorities have opened 20 gates. The project was getting an inflow of 1.70 lakh cusecs. Due to this, 169 thousand cusecs of water is flowing towards Srisailam. Officials warned people to be on alert and fishermen not to go fishing in the Krishna river basin as heavy flooding was coming from above.

Srisailam Dam has been constructed on Krishna River near Srisailam temple town in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana and Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh and is the second largest hydroelectric power station in the country. The tail pond dam/weir located 14 km downstream of the Srisailam dam is pumped back into the Srisailam reservoir by operating the turbines in an advanced stage of construction to contain the water released by the hydro turbines.
