Devotee presents 6.5 kg gold sword at Tirupati temple

Visakhapatnam: Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh is counted among the most prestigious and rich temples in the country. Devotees offer offerings worth crores of rupees to Lord Venkateswara Swami in this temple.  In the same vein, the Srinivas couple from Hyderabad on Monday presented a gold sword made at a cost of Rs 1.8 crore (about Rs 4 crore in the current situation).

The Srinivascouple reached the temple on Monday morning and handed over the gold sword to the officials of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). The Srinivas couple displayed a sword weighing about six and a half kilograms in front of the media at the Collective Guest House in Tirumala on Sunday. The Srinivascouple reportedly wanted to hand over the sword to the temple for the past one year, but it was not possible due to corona. Srinivas, who handed over the golden sword at the feet of Lord Venkateswara Swami, said, "I have wanted to present the golden sword to Surya Katari for the past one year, but the temple was closed due to corona. The Srinivas couple handed over 'Surya Katari' to TTD officials during the morning service this morning."

The gold sword 'Surya Katari' is reportedto have been made by the Srinivascouple from specialist jewellers in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It took about 6 months to build. The gold sword, weighing six and a half kilos, was built at around Rs 1.8 crore, but is currently worth about Rs 4 crore.
