Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which operates and maintains the Sri Venkateswara Temple, has decided not to deduct the salary of its nearly 23,000 employees despite a revenue loss of Rs 400 crore and will be paid full salary for the next two to three months. TTD President YV Subba Reddy said that there was a loss of Rs 200 crore per month after the lockdown imposed by the Central Government on March 24 to deal with the Corona epidemic.
He said that TTD had prohibited entry into the temple since March 20 as a precaution. Reddy said that only after a severe economic crisis will the TTD be in a position to pay (full) salaries to all its permanent employees and other personnel, and pensioners for the next two or three months. A temple official said that the TTD board hopes to meet its needs from alternative sources of income, such as fixed deposits (FDs) that yield an annual interest of Rs 700 crore.
