Port Blair: Only 8 new corona cases have been registered in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the last 24 hours. This has been followed by a total number of infection cases in the Union Territory to 7,269. Also, not a single death was recorded the previous day. The total number of deaths is still steady at 126. The health official said four of the new corona cases were found to be in contact tracing and four were air travel people.

The total number of active cases in the Union Territory has now gone up to 109, out of which 105 are from South Andaman district and the remaining four are from North and Central Andaman districts. Nicobar district is now corono free. There is not a single active case here. In the last 24 hours, 9 more people have recovered from the disease, taking the total number of people cured of corona to 7,034. The Union Territory Administration has so far tested 39 lakh 67 thousand 190 people for corona. The positivity rate here is 1.83 per cent.

With this, a total of 1 lakh 32 thousand 542 people have been vaccinated in Andaman and Nicobar so far, out of which 1 lakh 15 thousand 76 have received the first dose and 17,466 have received both doses. Union Territory Information, Publicity and Tourism Secretary SK Singh told press on Monday that it has been extended till June 21 with some concessions in lockdown in the archipelago. He has requested people to follow corona rules for their safety, the safety of their family members and society.
