What is Andropause?

Andropause is referred to as ADAM (Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male).  It is a condition associated with the decrease in the male hormone testosterone.Approximately 30% of men in their 50s will experience symptoms of andropause.  Men who experience andropause symptoms have lowered amounts of bioavailable testosterone in their blood.

Andropause differs from Menopause in several ways.  Not all men experience it.  Sexual complications may arise due to lowered hormone levels.

Some of the symptoms associated with andropause are

  • Lack of energy
  • Low sex drive
  • depression
  • Irritability
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Hot flashes
  • Increased body fat
  • Erectile dysfunction

Other complications could include an increased risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular problems.

  • Regular exercise
  • Reduce your stress levels
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Get enough sleep
  • Herbal extracts – Tongkat Ali, can help in upping testosterone levels
  • L-Arginine – an amino acid that is found in protein-rich foods

Making these simple lifestyle changes can benefit men who are experiencing symptoms of andropause.

Andropause is an aging-associated phenomenon that is unfortunately unavoidable.  As you get older it’s normal to experience a decline in testosterone levels, and symptoms are manageable even without any treatment.  If you are suffering from depression and other complications its best to speak to your doctor who can help.
