All schools in Tamil Nadu have been closed due to the first and second wave of corona virus outbreak. As a result, students are forced to study online from home. Examinations for all classes were canceled due to the situation where the year-end examination could not be held. Currently online classes have started again with the start of the new academic year. With the spread of corona greatly reduced, the Tamil Nadu government is seriously considering opening schools. There was an expectation that the closed Anganwadi Centers across the state would be reopened. This is because there is a situation where students who depend on the nutrition program do not get enough food.

A welfare case was therefore filed in the Chennai High Court seeking to provide cooked food to the students benefiting from the scheme. Following the inquiry, the judges advised the Tamil Nadu government to consult on the opening of Anganwadi Centers. The case came up for hearing again yesterday before a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Banerjee. At that time, the Tamil Nadu government replied that the cooked food required for children between the ages of 2 and 6 would be delivered directly to their homes.

The practice will be implemented for 15 consecutive days and Anganwadi Centers will be opened in all areas from September 1. The state government has decided to provide the required food to children up to the age of 6. Upon hearing this, the judges ordered that action be taken to provide food as soon as possible through the nutrition program. They also ordered the Tamil Nadu government to file a report on the opening of Anganwadi Centers and adjourned the case till September 3.
