Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has been praised by social activist Anna Hazare. He has termed a decision of the Shinde government as revolutionary. On Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the Lokayukta law would be brought into the state soon. This was an important initiative to fight corruption and Anna Hazare was also demanding it for a long time. Now because the state government has taken steps in this direction, Anna Hazare is very happy.

He has said that I thank Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis because they have announced to bring Lokayukta law. I have told them that this decision will prove to be revolutionary in fighting corruption. I was sitting on fast in Ramlila Maidan in 2018, then CM Devendra Fadnavis promised me to get Lokayukta. But no decision was taken then. The government changed, and Uddhav Thackeray came, I also told him about this but no action was taken.

However, regarding this decision on Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Anna Hazare wanted a Lokayukta on the lines of the Lokpal Act in the state. That is why when we were in government, we constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Anna Hazare. But when the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was formed in the state, they did not pay any heed to those suggestions, then no action was taken. Now that we have come to power again, this process is being taken forward. It is also reported that 5 persons including retired judges will be included in the Lokayukta. Fadnavis has insisted that this is the biggest decision taken by his government in the last 5 months. CM Eknath Shinde has also considered this decision very important. He has said that this is going to prove to be an effective step in making Maharashtra corruption free. This will also bring transparency in government processes.
