Siwan: Another bridge over the Gandaki river in Bihar's Siwan district collapsed on Wednesday morning, marking the seventh such incident in the state within the past 15 days. The bridge, located in the Deoria block, connects several villages with Mahrajganj.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. This incident follows a similar collapse in Siwan just 11 days ago.

Deputy Development Commissioner Mukesh Kumar stated that the exact cause of the collapse is under investigation. Senior officials from the block have already arrived at the site to assess the situation.

"The collapse occurred around 5 am this morning. The bridge, built in 1982-83, was undergoing repairs in recent days," Kumar explained.

Local villagers speculated that heavy rainfall over preceding days may have contributed to the collapse, potentially weakening the structure due to increased water levels in the Gandaki river.

This incident adds to growing concerns over Bihar's infrastructure. Just on June 22, another bridge collapsed in the Darounda area of Siwan. Similar incidents have occurred recently in districts like Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran, and Kishanganj, prompting the Bihar government to establish a high-level committee to investigate these recurring collapses.
