SAN FRANCISCO: According to preliminary data from the San Francisco Police Department, reports of hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the city have grown by 567 percent from nine in 2020 to 60 in 2021.

According to state news report, Mayor London Breed expressed dismay at the shocking increase and believes the true numbers are considerably higher because individuals are hesitant to report such events to the police.

"We all looked out for each other as a community. And it is precisely what we must do today, more than ever "According to reports, the Mayor said.

From March 2020 to September 2021, the Stop AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) Hate coalition, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that tracks acts unfriendly to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the US, documented more than 10,000 hate incidents.
