Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that Antonio Costa has been nominated to continue as the country's new government's leader. According to reports, the decision was revealed in a note published on the official website of the Portuguese Republic's Presidency.
The appointment was made in accordance with Portuguese legislation as a result of the legislative elections on January 30, after hearing from the political parties represented in the new Republic Assembly.
Costa, the PS (Socialist Party) secretary-general, has been told of the decision to re-appoint him as Prime Minister of Portugal's 23rd constitutional administration.
Following a video conference between the president and Costa, who was unable to attend a face-to-face meeting after testing positive for Covid-19, the formal message was released. The appointment and inauguration will take place following the first session of the Republic's 15th legislature. The PS obtained an outright majority in the legislative elections.
