The violence in JNU happened when the workers of JNU's left student unit and the teacher of JNU were protesting on the issue of an increase in fees. The masked were equipped with wooden poles and iron rods. More than 20 students were injured in this violence. The JNU Students Union had claimed that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had carried out the violence. Apart from this, ABVP accused the left wing of assault. 'Free Kashmir' means to liberate Kashmir. Significantly, on August 5, the Government of India abolished Article 370 giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
