A sportsman spirit-revamp took place in the cabinet of ministers under Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, with Anurag Thakur being made in charge of the Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry, as well as the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Thakur took charge of his new responsibilities at elevated spirt at 3:30 PM Thursday.

Reacting to the new responsibilities given to him, Thakur said: "I am thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah for giving me this opportunity. All possible efforts will be made to fulfil my duties."

Thakur relationship with sports isn't new, having worked as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from May 2016 to January 2017. Thakur's appointment has also raised a few eyebrows considering the changes in the Sports Ministry has taken place just a couple of weeks before the start of the Tokyo Olympics.

Felicitations and wishes poured in for him on Twitter as he took over the reins from his predecessor Prakash Javadekar.

Thakur earlier worked as Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs under Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman since 2019.
