New Delhi: The farmers' agitation against the new agricultural laws brought by the central government has entered the 79th day. Congress is continuously attacking the government for three agricultural laws. Congress claims that these laws will eliminate mandi and the agricultural sector will be in the possession of some big industrialists. But BJP has declared the budget to connect the country and make India self-reliant.

Assuring the continuation of the mandi system, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said that the government will empower it more so that it helps in increasing the income of farmers. In the Rajya Sabha, in the discussion on Budget 2021-22, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said, 'It is being said that the mandi system will be abolished by the new agricultural laws. I want to assure that this will not happen.' He said, 'Mandi system will continue. The government will make it stronger so that it can help in increasing the income of farmers.' He challenged the opposition, saying that those opposing the laws should tell where in the law that the MSP will end or the mandis will be closed.

He further said that the new agricultural laws are being criticized. The reality is that these laws have been brought for the welfare of the farmers, they will double their income. He said, 'During the tenure of the UPA government, wheat was purchased at Rs 33874 crore, while in the NDA government it was Rs 75000 crore. During the tenure of the Congress-led UPA government, the procurement of paddy was Rs 63000 crore, but our government procured paddy for Rs 1,72,752 crore.
