Apple has launched a new feature on the web version of Apple Maps called "Look Around," similar to Google’s Street View. This feature, already available on iPhones since iOS 13, provides users with a 360-degree, immersive view of select locations.
Now accessible on web browsers like Safari, Google Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, “Look Around” will be gradually rolled out to several countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, the UK, and parts of the European Union.
How ‘Look Around’ Works on the Web
Apple’s “Look Around” feature, which was added to the web version of Apple Maps on December 11, is easy to use. Simply click the binoculars icon at the bottom left of the map window to activate the immersive view. From there, users can click and drag the map to explore streets, just as they would on the mobile version of Apple Maps.
Once activated, the Look Around view allows users to explore locations by moving along the street. You can track your position using the binoculars icon, and for a more detailed view, users can switch to full-screen mode by selecting the arrows in the Look Around Viewer.
Availability and Future Updates
The Look Around feature is currently available in limited regions, including parts of the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, Japan, and the European Union. As the rollout continues, more locations will be added.
Future enhancements for Apple Maps on the web have also been teased by Apple. These include the introduction of transit maps, 3D views, support for additional languages, and possibly the ability to log in using an Apple ID to view saved locations.
