New Delhi: Software updates for Apple's iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 are currently rolling out to compatible iPhone and iPad models. It follows a period of beta testing during which new features and several patches that fix more than a dozen security flaws were introduced to the devices.

The stable iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 software updates will bring, among other things, collaboration app Freeform, Apple's Advanced Data Protection, which adds end-to-end encryption across multiple iCloud services, and the Apple Music Sing feature. For users in India, the new update also brings 5G network support on compatible iPhones.

The new Freeform app is available on Apple devices due to the iOS and iPadOS 16.2 update. The Cupertino-based tech behemoth claims that the app will enable users to organize their work or creative projects on a single whiteboard to share and collaborate with others. Users of Freeform will be able to collaborate and add files during FaceTime calls.

Additionally, Apple Music subscribers with compatible devices can use the Apple Music Sing feature, which adds a karaoke-like singalong feature to a selection of tracks in the Apple Music app.

Enhanced Data Protection, which adds end-to-end encryption to iCloud backups, photos, and more, is another feature of the iOS 16.2 update.

The new update will significantly enhance iPhone support for 5G networks for Apple users in India. The iPhone 12 and newer models support 5G, but after Airtel and Jio recently launched 5G services in India, a software update was required to make the upgraded connectivity available.

Users on Jio and Airtel networks can now connect to 5G thanks to the recent update. All these feature updates were distributed to beta testers last week as part of the iOS 16.2 RC update.

Apart from the features, the update also comes with several security patches that address known vulnerabilities in Apple devices. The updates fix security issues with various apps, including Accounts, the iTunes Store, Photos, Safari, and Weather.

As 9to5Mac reports, Rapid Security Response, which brings security patches to iOS without requiring an update to a new version of the OS, is also included in the 16.2 update. The report also states that iOS 15 users who haven't updated to iOS 16 or are unable to do so will also receive security updates.
