Argentina and Spain started their campaign by winning on the opening day of the 16-team ATP Cup tournament here on Saturday. Argentina registered an easy 3-0 win over Georgia while Spain beat Chile by the same margin. The team tournament is scheduled to be played at 2 Stadiums in Sydney.
World number 13 Diego Schwartzman defeated Georgia's Nikolaj Basilashvili 6-1, 6-2 in a single match to give Argentina a decisive 2-0 lead. Formerly Federico Delbonis also defeated Alexandre Matreveli 6-1, 6-2.
In the doubles match, Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni defeated Georgia of Saba Partselaje and Jura Kemalaje 6-1, 6-2 to make a clean sweep 3-0. In another match of the day, world number 20 Pablo Carreno Busta returned after trailing by a break to give Spain the lead by defeating Chile's Alejandro Tablo 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Roberto Baptista Agut has then secured Spain's victory by defeating Chile's world number 17 Cristian Gerin 6-0, 6-3. Alexandra Davidovich Fokina and Pedro Martinez then defeated Chile's Tomas Barios Vera and Tabilo 7-6 (3), 4-6, 10-7 to make a clean sweep for Spain.
