Ending of an era, the Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona has passed away at his home in Tigre after suffering a cardiac arrest, a spokesman told news media.

The Sixty-year-old, flamboyant player has been one of the greatest footballers of all times, had recently battled health issues and underwent an emergency surgery for subdural hematoma several weeks ago.  He suffered a heart attack at his residence in the outskirts of this cosmopolitan capital city, Argentinian media and lawyer of the former player confirmed.

Diego Maradona was captain when Argentina won the 1986 World Cup, scoring the famous 'Hand of God' goal against England in the quarter-finals. He scored 34 goals in 91 appearances for Argentina, representing them in four World Cups.

He had celebrated his 60th Birthday on October 30 and had showed up that night for Gimnasia's national championship match against Patronato, which his team won 3-0. The Argentinian World Cup player led his country to 1990 final in Italy, where they were beaten by West Germany, before captaining them again in the United States in 1994, but was sent home after failing a drug test for ephedrine. During the second half of his career, Maradona struggled with cocaine addiction and was banned for 15 months after testing positive for the drug in 1991.
