NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Defence has stated that on May 27 and 28, 2023, Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande will visit Manipur for two days. According to the mission statement, the main goal of this tour is to have a firsthand understanding of the current situation on the ground.

Army General Manoj Pande is a distinguished military leader known for his exemplary service in the Indian Army. General Pande will meet with field commanders, including those from other forces, during his tour, and undertake a thorough analysis of the law and order scenario. Due to the internal security situation in Manipur, the State Administration issued a request for the visit on May 3, 2023.

The Army and Assam Rifles responded quickly, deploying 135 columns to resolve the crisis and guarantee public safety. They also provided the displaced people with urgent relief and humanitarian aid in addition to the evacuation of some 35,000 inhabitants to safe areas.

General Pande is set to meet with influential individuals in Manipur, including Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, and Chief Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, to discuss the current state of affairs and map out a course for returning to normalcy. The purpose of these discussions is to encourage coordinated actions and efficient plans for restoring stability to the area.

Over 70 people were killed during the ethnic conflicts, and 10,000 army and paramilitary men had to be sent in to restore order in the northeastern state.

Earlier Amit Shah, the Union home minister, appealed to the people of Manipur to uphold peace. He also urged Manipur residents to keep the peace and announced that he will visit the state in a few days and stay for three days. He urged that everyone in the state would receive justice.

"Manipur's recent unrest has resulted in a significant migration of internally displaced students into Mizoram. Therefore, it has been suggested that all district and school authorities provide admission even if suitable documentation cannot be produced for the kids when they apply for admission to schools, according to the letter from Lalsangliana, director of the education department.
