Srinagar: A large number of paramilitary forces have been deployed in parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past. The deployment of such a large number of personnel has left some local leaders in the state worried. In fact, this is the first time since the state's special status was abolished in 2019 that such a large number of troops have been deployed here.

According to media reports, some political leaders detained after the state's special status expired said they feared they could be taken back into custody. Although officials said there is no reality in this, it is rumored to have been spread by opposition leaders. A senior police officer said the personnel coming to the Union Territory are those who had gone for election duty in West Bengal and other states. IGP Vijay Kumar says these soldiers are returning not for any purpose but from states where elections were held recently. He said he is being re-inducted after the elections are over. This is not a new deployment.

Officials said about 200 companies of paramilitary forces were sent from Jammu and Kashmir during the elections to West Bengal and other states. Most of them were in West Bengal. At the same time, fifty troops were sent back a month ago after the elections were over and the rest are now coming back and they are being redeployed.
