The whole country is remembering former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on his second death anniversary today. Arun Jaitley was battling health problems in his last days when the country waited to hear his voice in political forums. There have been very few orators and administrators in Indian politics and Arun Jaitley's name is prominent among them. A lawyer by profession, but who has always stood for the country with his logical and strong arguments in politics, Jaitley has been recognized for his leadership skills since the Emergency.

Whether his party is in power or in opposition, he has always been known as a strong voice. This was the reason that when he died two years ago, he was considered a big loss for the BJP and the country. Arun Jaitley, student leader of Emergency, member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Jana Sangh, youth leader of BJP, successful lawyer, the voice of BJP in opposition, a cabinet minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and finance minister of first Modi cabinet, a cricket administrator, consensus-building, was also known as an accomplished leader. Jaitley first came into the limelight during the Emergency, after his announcement, on 26 June 1975, in the early morning, he gathered people and burnt the effigy of the then PM Indira Gandhi. He used to say that he was the 'first Satyagrahi' against the Emergency. After this incident, he was kept in jail for 19 months.

It was the wonder of Jaitley's personality, he put his side in front of the country very strongly as the Minister of State for Disinvestment of the Atal cabinet. Be it the matter of removal of indirect taxes imposed by the government of former PM Manmohan Singh or the threat of implementing the controversial GST law, Jaitley always kept his stand firmly in Parliament. Not only did Jaitley use his successful advocacy experience for politicians, but he also used it to reform public sector banks. At the same time, Jaitley's contribution is also considered important in the success of projects like the Jan Dhan account, Mudra Yojana, etc.
