He died on December 17, 2019, at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at the age of 92. He was born in the Satara district of Maharashtra and studied medicine and got an MBBS degree. After that, he started doing theater from the time of studying in medical college. He is said to have joined the Progressive Dramatic Association at that time and got a degree in ENT surgery from Mumbai University and practiced in Pune for 6 years. After that, he also went to Canada and England for additional training and after coming back to India, he started proper practice in Pune. After this, he stepped into the field of acting.

At the same time, in the year 1969, he started his acting career, and first, he started his career with some plays in Marathi. At that time, his debut play was Oshalala Mrityu written by Vasant Kanetkar and he debuted in Bollywood films in the year 1972 with Pinjara. After this film, he went up the stairs of success. He became famous in the industry in the role of father, villain, or in the role of police and remains always alive in the hearts of people.
