Today is the first death anniversary of Dharampal Gulati, the owner of MDH, popularly known as Masala King. He passed away on 3rd December 2020 at the age of 98. Dharampal Gulati breathed his last at 6 am on December 3 at Mata Chandan Devi Hospital in Delhi. Dharampal Gulati once started a spice business from a small shop, which he made a big brand with his hard work and dedication.

Dharampal Gulati was born on 27 March 1923 in Sialkot (present-day Pakistan) of undivided India. After studying till 5th standard in 1933, he left his studies and started a small business in 1937, helping his father. In the meantime, he traded soap and also took up a job. During this period, clothes, rice, etc., were also traded, but no business was deposited. Then he started his family business spice sap. Mahashian Di Hatti (MDH) is a big spice brand in the country. He is also a spice manufacturer, distributor and exporter. MDH was started in 1919 by Mahasaya Chunni Lal in Sialkot (Pakistan). Then he ran a small spice shop. Within a short time, he became very famous and was known to people there as 'Deggi Mirch Wala'.

When the country was divided, he returned to India and reached Delhi on September 27, 1947. In those days, he had only Rs.1500 in his pocket. With this money, he bought a tanga for Rs. 650. Which he used to run from New Delhi station to Qutab Road and its surroundings. But the passion for starting his family business was not over. He thought of taking his father's business forward. He started it by buying small wooden boxes to start a business. He later started a shop called 'Mahashiyan Di Hatti of Sialkot on Ajmal Khan Road in Karol Bagh. He never looked back after that. Today, Mahashiyan Di Hatti (MDH) is a big spice brand not only in the country but also abroad.
