Arun Jaitley slams Congress over attacks on GST, says those who oppressed India with a 31% indirect tax must introspect

Recently, Goods and Services Tax  (GST)Council  lower down rates for nearly two dozen items. Now, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday delivered a stinging rebuttal to the Congress that has sharply criticised the government for its implementation of the new indirect tax system.

Attacking  Congress government, Finance Minister in a detailed Facebook post, said that the GST has been at the receiving end of a lot of ill-informed and motivated criticism,” and asked it to "seriously introspect".

In A blog Finance Minister, wrote “Those who oppressed India with a 31% indirect tax and consistently belittled the GST must seriously introspect. Irresponsible politics and irresponsible economics is only a race to the bottom”

Two days earlier,GST Council announced reduction in tax rates on 23 goods. The council reduced tax rates on goods and services including movie tickets, TV and monitor screens and power banks, and exempted frozen and preserved vegetables.

The reduced rates are likely to come into effect from January 1
