New Delhi: The government's plan to repeal the controversial farm regulations was applauded by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday, who said the "sacrifice" of farmers who died demonstrating against them will be immortalised.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this morning in his speech to the nation that the Centre has decided to repeal the three farm laws. The Prime Minister stated that efforts to repeal farm legislation will be adopted during the Winter session of Parliament, and he urged farmers to halt their strike and return to their homes.

Since November 2020, a large number of farmers have been protesting and camped at Delhi's borders, demanding that the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 be repealed and a new law enacted to guarantee MSP for crops. The Centre, which has undertaken 11 rounds of formal engagement with farmers, has maintained that the new rules are pro-farmer, whereas demonstrators believe that the legislations will leave them at the whim of companies.
