New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, withdrew his plea from the Supreme Court on Wednesday challenging the Delhi High Court's interim stay on a trial court's bail order related to a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise scam. This decision came after a vacation bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti granted Kejriwal permission to withdraw his plea.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, informed the bench that since the Delhi High Court had issued a detailed order on June 25, outlining new developments including Kejriwal's subsequent arrest by the CBI, they intend to file a comprehensive appeal.
"We wish to file a substantial appeal to present all pertinent details and contest the high court's decision to stay the bail order issued on June 25," Singhvi stated.
The bench acknowledged Singhvi's submission and granted him the liberty to file the appeal accordingly.
Earlier on Wednesday, a Delhi court had granted the CBI permission to formally arrest Kejriwal in connection with the alleged excise scam. This followed the Delhi High Court's decision on Tuesday to stay the trial court's bail order, citing the lower court's alleged oversight in properly assessing the evidence presented by the Enforcement Directorate.
The developments mark a significant legal maneuvering in the ongoing case, with Kejriwal's legal team preparing to challenge the recent judicial decisions that have impacted his legal status in the case.
