Assam election: Congress gets relief from Owaisi's decision, matter related to Muslim vote bank

Guwahati: Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM's stand on the Assam election amidst bought some relief for congress. AIMIM has announced not to contest in Assam. Many leaders are blaming the ticket division for the poor performance in Bihar elections, so many believe that it cost them dearly to ignore AIMIM.

Despite the number of Muslim voters in Assam is much higher than in Bihar and West Bengal, AIMIM has no intention of contesting elections in Assam. After winning the Hyderabad Corporation election, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi once again reiterated that his party will not contest elections in Assam and Kerala, as the AIUDF in Assam and All India Muslim League candidates field in Kerala elections.

After this statement by Owaisi, a state Congress leader has said that there will be some relief from AIMIM not contesting elections. Because, AIMIM participation in the elections would have distributed the Muslim vote. He said that in the 2016 elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had the advantage of dividing votes between Congress and AIUDF in 27 seats. While the Muslim voters decide the election results in these seats.
