Mohammed Shami has been a late revelation for India following a tough period off-the-field. Shami after his struggles came back into the Indian side as a completely new bowler – fit and raring to go and has produced some scintillating performances with the ball in both Test and ODI formats of the game. Shami was named the Man of the Series in the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand and his wicket-taking prowess is world class in today’s game. Former Indian seamer Ashish Nehra has said that Shami is going to be a 'big asset' for India in the upcoming 2019 World Cup, which is scheduled to be played from May 30 onwards in England and Wales.

However, Nehra has been left impressed by the grit and determination of Shami since India’s tour of South Africa in early 2018. Nehra added that Shami has been bowling well in Test cricket and followed it up with consistently impressive performances.
“Mohammed Shami has been really impressive, not just in this series and today’s game but for the last year and year-and-half. From South Africa tour I would say. Test cricket, he bowled really well. Bowled long spells. His fitness has been really really impressive,” Nehra was quoted as saying by CricketNext. Nehra added “He is going to be a big asset for India,”.
In 2018, Shami had picked up a staggering 47 wickets in 23 innings in Test cricket making a strong comeback after his off-the-field issues. The seamer has garnered praises from everyone, including Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and Indian skipper Virat Kohli. On Sunday, Kohli even termed him as ‘lean mean pace machine’ as the duo took off to Nagpur for the second ODI against Australia.
