New Delhi: The election for the post of Congress President now seems to be Ashok Gehlot vs Shashi Tharoor. After Shashi Tharoor, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot also submitted his claim amidst the voices rising in support of Rahul Gandhi. Gehlot has said that he is ready to contest for the national president of Congress. However, he has once again appealed to Rahul Gandhi to accept this post. But he also said that he is ready for whatever responsibility the party gives him. Gehlot has reached Delhi to meet Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi before the final seal on the claim.

Talking to the media in Delhi, Gehlot said that he would go to Kochi to make his last attempt to persuade Rahul Gandhi to take over the post of party president. He said that he would decide what to do next only after discussing with Rahul Gandhi. Gehlot said, "I have to serve the Congress. Wherever I am used, I will be ready there... If the party feels that I am needed as Chief Minister, or as President, I will not be able to refuse.

Gehlot said, "If my bus goes, then I will not hold any post. Let me go on the road with Rahul Gandhi and open a front against the fascist people. It is not from our mistakes... Congress needs to be strong in the condition it is in today. I will stand where it is needed to strengthen the Congress. I had proposed in the Pradesh Congress Committee that he should become the president.'' Let me tell you that according to the announced schedule for the election of Congress President, the notification will be issued on September 22 and the process of filing nominations will go on from September 24 to 30.
