Ashok Kumar was one of the renowned actors in Bollywoood. He has featured in various hit films. He is popularly known as 'Dada Muni'. In the year  40s and 50s, he had done some major work. He had acted in over 300 film. He made his debut in 1936 Bombay Talkies film Jeevan Naiya

Ashok Kumar aka Kumudlal Ganguly is  step-grandmother of Kiara Advani. Her step grandmother Bharti Ganguly was the daughter of Ashok Kumar. Bharti was first married to a Gujarati businessman and her daughter is famous actress Anuradha Patel. After Bharti broke the first marriage, she went against her family and married Hamid Jafri. Hamid Jafri was a Muslim and already had two daughters who became Bharti's step-daughters. Both Shaheen Jafri and Genevieve Jafri were daughters of Hamid Jafri. Shaheen Jafri is a famous model and Saeed Jafri, brother of Kiara's father Hamid. Genevieve who was Hamid's second daughter married a Sindhi businessman and became Genevieve Advani and then came Kiara Advani.  So Ashok Kumar is Kiara's maternal grandfather.

Ashok Kumar was also in deeply in love with Nalini Jaywant. Nalini Jaywant and Ashok Kumar appeared to be Kajol's paternal grandmother in the relationship. She was the cousin sister of Kajol's paternal grandmother, Shobhana Samarth. The two had many superhit films together, including films like 'Kafila', 'Nastik', 'Kala Pani', 'Jalpari', 'Lakerein', 'Mr X' and 'Toofan Mein Pyaar Kahan'. The relationship lasted for about 10 years.
