On January 17, the election process will be according to the schedule set in Jalandhar, but it is being told that a consensus has been reached in the party to make the former state head Ashwani Sharma again head. It is being said that former cabinet minister Madan Mohan Mittal has played an important role in making a consensus on his name.

Sharma took command of the state head during 2010 to 2012. In the 2012 assembly elections, when it seemed that a SAD-BJP government would not be formed again in Punjab, the BJP surprised everyone by winning 12 of its 23 seats under Sharma's leadership. Not only this, the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab created history. The coalition was re-formed on the basis of 12 seats of the BJP. Sharma also became an MLA in this election.
