On Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister Ashwini Upadhyay filed an appeal to in the Supreme Court looking for its direction against 'paid news'.

As per the reports, the apex court has said that they will hear Upadhyay's petition on May 4. Upadhyay, in his appeal, looked for a direction from the best court to the Government to find a way to execute the proposals of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Law Commission of India (LCI) on the paid news and political commercials. 

The BJP leader in his 82-page request said that free and reasonable race is the establishment of a democracy. This must be accomplished when there is the nonappearance of corrupting elements, for example, wielding money power and influence.

As stated in ANI, Upadhyay's request, a duplicate only accessible with the ANI, additionally looked for a direction from the apex court to coordinate and pronounce that the act of indulging in the publication of 'paid news' is a degenerate practice under area 123 (4) of the Representation of People's (RP) Act, 1951.

The paid news controversy is the old controversy in which many petitions are being filed in the Indian Supreme Court.
