Former India footballer Subhash Bhowmick passed away in Kolkata on Saturday. Subhash, 71, was part of the bronze medalist team at the 1970 Asian Games. He has achieved a lot of success as a player and coach in his international career. The AIFF officially confirmed this on Saturday and has also paid tribute to Subhash. He has released the information on Twitter.
Bhowmick was born on October 2, 1950. He made his international debut at the age of 20. Played his first match against Formosa in the Mardeca Cup on July 30, 1970. He played 24 international matches for India in which he has scored 9 goals. In the 1971 Mardeca Cup, he scored a hat-trick against the Philippines. India won the match 5-1. There is a lot of disappointment among fans over Bhowmick's departure who expressed their grief on social media.
He started his professional career with the Rajasthan club in 1968. He scored 7 goals in his first season in the Kolkata Football League. At the domestic level, Bhowmick had also participated five times in the Santosh Trophy for Bengal. Four of these times, he made the team champions under his captaincy and scored 24 goals. While playing for East Bengal, he scored 82 goals and won the Calcutta Football League title thrice, while he had won the IFA Shield title thrice.
