Islamabad: Lieutenant General Asim Munir is going to become the Chief of the Pakistani Army. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced his name. After the retirement of Qamar Javed Bajwa, many names were involved in the race for the new army chief, but the command of the army was handed over to Asim Munir. Let us tell you that Lieutenant General Asim Munir is the most senior officer of the Pakistani Army. He was posted at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. After holding the post of DG Military Intelligence in 2017, Munir was also the chief of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI for 8 months in the year 2018. In 2018, Munir was a two-star rank general.

As per reports, his four-year term as Lieutenant General is ending on November 27. By the end of this term, it has been announced to make him the army chief. Asim Munir remained ISI chief for just 8 months, the reason for this was the then PM Imran Khan. Munir was thrown out of ISI only at the behest of Imran Khan. This was disclosed by senior Pakistani journalist Najam Sethi. He had told that General Munir was DG ISI at that time, so he had told Imran that the situation in Punjab province was not right. If there is no change in the leadership there, new problems may arise. In a conversation with Imran, Munir had clearly said that the image of the army is being tarnished due to the situation prevailing in the Punjab province.

Although, Imran Khan did not give any answer to Munir's words, but he indicated to the then Army Chief General Bajwa to remove Munir. Only after this Munir was sent to Gunjawala. The corruption done by Begum Bushra Bibi of former PM Imran Khan was also clearly disclosed by General Munir in front of Imran. Imran did not like this thing either. This was also considered a major reason behind Munir's departure from ISI.
