Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has informed that Rs 1527.90 crores have been spent so far in NRC data updation. Cm Sarma responded to the question of Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey in the Assembly on Monday.  According to media reports, CM Sarma has said that the final NRC published on August 31, 2019, is yet to be notified by the Registrar General of India.

the NRC was updated in the apex court's supervision, which excluded the names of 19 lakh out of 3.29 crore applicants. On issuing rejection slips to those left out of the final register, CM Sarma said it falls within the purview of the RGI and NRC State Co-ordinator. CM Sarma further said that the state government had filed a petition seeking 20 percent re-verification in border districts and re-verification in 10 percent of other districts, but the apex court had not agreed as the NRC state coordinator had told the court that 27 percent re-verification had already been done.

AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam questioned biometric data taken during updation and rejection, to which the CM replied that it was done to link Aadhaar. He said the case is pending in the apex court and Aadhaar card is issued by UIDAI. The concerned department can issue it only after the supreme court's directions and notification of the final NRC.
