Assam CM Monitors Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Derailment in Uttar Pradesh

Guwahati: Several coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Jhilahi Railway Station in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries. The Assam Chief Minister's office confirmed that CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is closely monitoring the situation.

"Dr. Himanta Biswa has been briefed about the derailment of the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh express in Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister is monitoring the situation, and the Government of Assam is in touch with relevant authorities," stated an official release from the Assam Chief Minister's office.

Pankaj Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of North Eastern Railway, informed ANI, "One death has been reported, and there are seven injured, including one severely injured." He further mentioned that a medical van from the Railways has reached the site and rescue operations are underway. Helpline numbers have been established for assistance: 8957409292 in Lucknow and 8957400965 in Gonda. "The derailment occurred around 2:37 PM. Initial reports indicate that 4-5 coaches derailed. Our priority is to ensure relief and rescue work is carried out as quickly as possible," he added.

Uttar Pradesh's Relief Commissioner announced on X (formerly Twitter) that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Lucknow and Balrampur have been dispatched to Gonda. "Five ambulances have been deployed for rescue operations, and additional ambulances are being sent to the location. First aid is being administered to the injured, who are being transferred to the hospital. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams from three districts are being sent to expedite relief operations," the announcement stated.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to reach the accident site immediately and speed up relief efforts. CM Yogi has instructed the district administration to ensure proper treatment for the injured and has extended his wishes for their speedy recovery.
