Police to adopt encounter pattern if rapists flee: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Crime has increased considerably in the country in the recent past, while Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has termed the encounter policy as appropriate to maintain law and order. At the same time, Chief Minister Himanta has directed to deal firmly with crimes against women. In a meeting with officers in charge of all police stations on Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Some people told me that nowadays the culprits are absconding from the clutches of the police and there are a lot of incidents of encounters, is it becoming a pattern? I said to him, Yes, it should be a policing pattern." 

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "If the rapists run away and try to snatch weapons from the police, the police will have to open fire, but not on the chest and the law said that you can shoot on the feet, we want to convert assam police into the best policing organisation in the country."

At the same time, on animal trafficking, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ''Cow is our God, cow gives us milk, dung and before tractor arrives we cultivated with the help of cattle and it continues in many parts, now people have also joined in animal smuggling, drug trafficking, no one should be spared." Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed to complete all police verifications for jobs, passports etc.
