Guwahati: The Assam government on Friday appointed Senior IAS Officer Ghanshyam Das as secretary of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to an official release, Das was earlier secretary of the agriculture department. Assam Administrative Service Officer and Tinsukia District Development Commissioner Simant Kumar Das has been transferred to joint secretary of cm. Another state administrative service officer Deb Prasad Mishra has been made principal private secretary of Sarma. It may be recalled that Sarma was sworn in as cm of the state on May 10.

After being unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party in Assam, Himanta Biswa became the next CM of Sarma Pradesh. Himanta Biswa Sarma has become stronger in stature than former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal over time. Sarma had left the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and later parted ways with the Congress party.

Leading the BJP's mission of Congress-free India in the North-East, Himanta Biswa Sarma played a key role in expanding the BJP's base in the North-Eastern Region and proved its existence. Sarbananda Sonowal was the bjp's face in the 2016 assembly elections in Assam, but the first BJP government in Assam was credited to Himanta Biswa Sarma, whose organizational skills, deep knowledge of the Congress cadre and electoral strategy proved to be good.
