Chandigarh: The Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana has declared black fungus as a notified disease. Health Minister Anil Vij tweeted this information. Several cases of black fungus have been reported in the state. Doctors will now report to the CMO in the district on receipt of new cases. PGI senior doctors from Rohtak will hold a video conference in this regard and discuss the treatment of black fungus.

The increasing cases of black fungus in the state have added to the woes of the health department. After recovering from corona, the number of patients who have sugar is increasing and they have been attacked by black fungus. PGI Rohtak has reported the highest number of such cases in the last one week. About 20 such cases were reported in the PGI. Some of them lost their eyes and some lost their ears. Two people have died. Subsequently, two patients who have contracted fungus infection were also identified at Karnal Medical College.

Earlier, Haryana Congress President Kumari Selja had demanded that the government set up a state level committee of doctors to monitor the situation in the districts across the state. Such patients should be identified and treated at the earliest. The government bear the full cost of treatment and medicines for patients suffering from black fungus. It is even more alarming that the State Health Department does not have any data so far as to how many cases of black fungus have been detected in which district of Haryana. The 2,250-rupee injection used to treat the disease is being sold for 6,000 rupees.
