Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday, 20 November 2019 (language) on Guwahati that the state government has requested the Center to reject the recently released National Civil Register (NRC). Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced today the implementation of NRC at the countrywide level. The same senior BJP leader, Sarma, told a press conference here that the updated NRC has many flaws as the then state coordinator of NRC Prateek Hajela conducted the exercise in a "unilateral" manner.

Sources said that they said that since there is no scope for amendment, the state government, as well as the ruling BJP, has requested the Center to "dismiss" the present form of NRC. He said, "Assam government has not accepted NRC. Many ineligible people were included in this and many genuine Indian citizens have been excluded. The Assam government and the BJP have requested the Home Minister to reject this NRC, there is no scope for amendment in it. ”Sarma, however, clarified that no written information on the issue has been sent to the Center. Home Minister Shah has given a statement in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the NRC process will be carried out across the country. Welcoming Shah's statement, Sarma said that the state government is happy that the Center has "listened to his heart" and that the exercise will begin after the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Sarma said that the state government has supported a national NRC for a specified year for the entire country. He said, "If the designated year is 1971, then it should be the same for all states. We are not asking for the cancellation of the Assam Accord."

According to the information, the Minister strongly condemned NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela, alleging that the entire exercise of the update was conducted in a "unilateral" manner keeping the state government separate. He said, "The whole country thought that the NRC was being updated by the Assam government. We are suffering because of one person. We are worried about the shortcomings of the system. He said, The way Hazel conducted the exercise under a different system, questions were framed at many levels. Being the people's representative, we are unable to answer these questions now. "IAS officer Hajela has been transferred to her home state of Madhya Pradesh on the directions of the Supreme Court. Assam Civil Service officer Hitesh Dev Sarma has been appointed in his place.
