Assam's ITIs, polytechnics to be upgraded by TATA group

Officials from the TATA group announced on Thursday that the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics in Assam will be upgraded to 'Centres of Excellence.'

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met with TATA Group senior executive P.J. Nath on Thursday to discuss upgrading the state's ITIs and polytechnics to Centres of Excellence. Sarma praised the TATA group for stepping forward with their unique project 'Transforming Engineering Academia to Industry 4.0' to convert Assam's technical colleges into technological centres.

According to a spokesman for the Chief Minister's Office, after hearing the TATA group's detailed presentation, Sarma asked them to make some changes and add a few more components to their idea. The Chief Minister pledged to provide all logistical support to the TATA group in order to ensure the project's success. He requested that the Education Department create the Memorandum of Understanding and schedule a signing ceremony as soon as possible.

The meeting was attended by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Education Department Advisor Prof. Noni Gopal Mahanta, Education Department Principal Secretary B. Kalyan Chakraborty, and Principal Secretary of Industry and Commerce Department K.K. Dwivedi, among others.
