Assam Police arrested 5 Bangladeshis belonging to Al-Qaeda jihadi group

GUWAHATI: Five Bangladeshi nationalists have been arrested from Assam's Barpeta district for allegedly belonging to a Bangladesh-based jihadi group. It is being told that this jihadi group is associated with Al-Qaeda (AQIS) in the Indian subcontinent. Director-General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has given information in this regard on Saturday.

Director-General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, while briefing the media in this regard, said that based on an intelligence report shared by the special branch of the state police, Barpeta police have arrested five persons from Howli and Kalgachia police station areas. According to information provided by the police, Bangladeshi national Mohammad Suman alias Saiful Islam had instigated four others to make Barpeta a den of jihadi activities of the AQIS. The DGP also said that some documents and electronic devices have been recovered from their possession.
