Guwahati: In Assam, clandestine conversion activities are being carried out even after the Himanta Biswa Sarma government's tough stand on conversion. Meanwhile, Assam Police on Thursday (July 29, 2021) arrested Christian missionary Ranjan Chutia for allegedly indulging in forced conversion activities in the Dibrugarh district of Assam. According to reports, Dibrugarh police have arrested Christian preacher Ranjan Chutia from his medical center in Moran.

Ranjan misused the religious and cultural works of the rich Shankar Dev for conversion. The Hindu Yuva Vidyarthi Parishad had lodged a complaint against the Christian preacher at Moran police station in the case. The complainant alleged that Ranjan Chutia had misused the religious and cultural works of the rich Shankardev to convert and made Borgeet, Naam, Ghusha (Assamese religious devotional song) back in his own way. The Christian missionary had changed the songs to add the name of Jesus Christ to these Vaishnava devotional songs.

Other missionaries including Ranjan Chutia are allegedly running a prayer house called 'World Healing Prayer Centre.' Here, patients were brainwashed on the pretext of healing with the strength of Jesus Christ. Through this, thousands of Hindus were brainwashed and converted to Christianity by these missionaries. Local organizations allege that Ranjan Chutia has converted thousands of people in the name of health and financial assistance. Hindu Yuva Vidyarthi Parishad General Secretary Babul Bora has demanded the state government to intervene in the matter to curb the heinous conversion activities of missionaries.
