GUWAHATI: Titabar Police in Jorhat, Assam have caught two smugglers with rhino horns. On the basis of secret information, a trap was laid to nab the smugglers under the leadership of Titabar's SDPO Moutri Deka. The police team was already ambushed near Kaliyapatti Kakodonga bridge. As the two smugglers passed by, the police immediately caught them. The police have found rhino horns from both of them. The accused have been identified as 52-year-old Azizul Rehman and 55-year-old Rajen Bauri. The accused told that they were taking the horn to be sold for Rs 1.5 crore.

At present, the police are taking the two smugglers into custody and interrogating them. Police said the horns of the rhino recovered from the smugglers weigh 700 grams. On June 3, the Dalgaon police of Darrang district arrested two smugglers with the rhino horn. Police said that the police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) have conducted a joint operation and nabbed two smugglers with the horn of a rhino weighing 2.12 kg. They have been identified as Zahan Ali, a resident of Rajapukhari in Sarupathar, and Babubur Rahman from Sadiya. Both were planning to sell horns.

Earlier one such case was reported from Pulyber in the district. Police had arrested two smugglers on the basis of secret information. Both the accused were residents of Titabar. Suriya Hazarika, 42, and Booleram Bhuiyan, 42, were arrested near Pulyber on National Highway-37.
