Assam Rifles troops recover 240 more smuggled areca nuts in Mizoram

The cases of smuggling of areca nuts are increasing in the northeastern states. In a new case, the Assam Rifles troops seized 3 more trucks loaded with 240 bags of areca nuts in the Tlangsam-Ruantlang area in Mizoram. The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs department at Zokhawthar in Champhai district on the basis of specific information.

Assam Rifles carried out an operation on Friday under the aegis of the headquarters of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East). It is estimated that the approximate cost of the recovered areca nuts would be Rs 40,32,000. The Customs Preventive Customs Preventive Force of Champhai district detained an individual in connection with the seizure of the contraband items.

The cases of smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border. Assam Rifles has continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
