Guwahati: Corona infection spreading across the country has now reached tea gardens in Assam, with more than 300 people found infected in Dibrugarh and Bishwanath districts. Dr. Nabjyoti Gogoi, who works in dibrugarh health services, said, "We have found many corona cases in the Zalloni tea estate. On the first day of testing, 39 positive cases were detected. On the second day, 90 reports came positive and more than 50 cases have been registered on the third day".
He further said that about 60 cases have been found in two other tea gardens after a special test drive. Tea gardens have been declared as cantonment zones and more cases have been found as asympathetic, depending on their status, they have been kept separately or quarantined at home. Dr Gogoi further said, "Last year, a siro survey in many tea gardens in our district found that most of the people were not infected during the first wave. This year, when cases were on the rise in the state, we tested again at these places and got positive cases. If the test drive had not been conducted, most patients, who are esimtomatic, would not have noticed this and the virus would have continued to spread".
Several cases have also been detected among tea garden workers in Bishwanath district and the administration has taken measures to ensure that the virus does not spread to other areas. On Thursday, 4,936 new corona cases were registered in Assam, the highest ever figure in a day in the state. It also reported 46 deaths on Thursday.
